What Is the Point of a Trash Compactor?
Posted on July 12, 2011
A number of businesses and even private homes use trash compactors. Although these devices may seem somewhat mysterious, they offer a number of benefits to both residential and commercial users.
A trash compactor, according to the waste management company Waste Care, compacts garbage so that more refuse can fit into a single load. In some areas, residents and businesses must pre-compact trash before taking it to a landfill.
According to Waste Care, a trash compactor can reduce the size of garbage by as much as 50 to 90 percent. This reduction reduces the amount of space required to store trash, lengthens the period between waste collections and can save money for businesses that pay for each garbage truck visit.
According to the appliance information website Repair Clinic, trash compactors produce a moderate amount of noise during operation. The devices also require periodic maintenance, and glass broken during the compaction process can present a hazard to users.
